Innovation & Entrepreneurship

For Zardosi & Kamdani Artisans

This course presents a new way of manipulating and building upon the zardosi artisans’ existing traditional craft techniques, workmanship and creative understanding with a focus on increasing perceptive value of craft, ethical practices, and entrepreneurial skills.

While engendering a regional identity within zardosi, the artisan students will develop a deeper understanding of the relationships between embroidery, raw material, layout, motif, design process, ethics, ergonomics, hygiene, semantics and quality of the product. The programme has craft residency during which the artisans will utilize design and craft as tools for innovative, ethical and high value product development at the same time exploring the craft essence and technique for value addition. Viable projects incubated by professionals will substantiate the coursework with a real-world context.

The programme has four units
  • Artisan & Community
  • Craft Technique Appreciation
  • Craft in Design & Art Experience
  • Craft & Design Excellence Practice

Each unit is further subdivided into modules and projects. The programme’s approach is towards a holistic development of thinking, health, well-being and entrepreneurial skills in the participants.
